joan of arc
in rape fantasy...

Joan of arc - in rape fantasy and terror sex we trust

'in rape fantasy …' was assembled as a loose sequel to it's conservative bigger brother 'so much staying alive and lovelessness'.
recorded simultaneously, they were intended to be a single album - but they grew…

Some songs were written in the studio before and after a friend/ enemy tour.
Some songs came from tim and mike kinsella fleshing out fractured guitar pieces brought in by sam zurich.

the fire show
saint the fire show

Saint The Fire Show is the third release from Chicago's The Fire Show. Here we find tfs rolling out the penultimate statement of their highly-engineered virulent strain of rock and roll.with saint the fire show, olias nil, m. resplendent and klos have not "done it again" - instead, now they've really done it. this is a staggering work encompassing allusion and illusion, invasion and evasion, rock, romance and 'rithmetic. we, uh, like it.

califone
sometimes good weather follows bad people
califone's two previous out of print ep's originally released on u.s. labels flydaddy and roadcone - plus two bonus tracks recorded from the same time period (1998-2000). tim rutili and accomplices from red red meat (ben massarella, brian deck and tim hurley) get together to bring on the thumping sound of a backwater-electronic hoedown where mournful vocals, troubled synths and creaky guitars comingle under the mayflies to make a beautiful plea. co-release with roadcone records. great cover design by jeremy yoder at newyouth.net (2002)

joe goldring
captain onboard

captain onboard is the debut solo album from joe goldring.  expanding on his guitar/production work with out in worship, the swans, hope sandoval, toiling midgets, touched by a janitor and many others, goldring explores the atmosphere between light and shade, chaos and serenity, noise and beauty.  crookedly elegant loops fluidly bend themsleves around drumless rythms.  broken guitars melt into otherworldly voices. captain onboard takes it all apart and swims in it.  it's a beautiful thing.  mixed by doug scharin (him, out in worship, june of '44)  also appearing: phil spirto (orso, rex, loftus). handmade sleeves by steve walters. HiM
our point of departure

the strong follow up to 1999's sworn eyes, him incorporates elements of jazz improvisation, dub punctuation and electronic soundscapes, relying heavily on the synthesis of the collected influences of this diverse and inspiring combination of people. the original tracks for the session were initiated by doug scharin and fred erskine (june of '44) and fleshed out by carlo cennamo (the boom), jon theodore (golden, royal trux) and sean meadows (june of '44). the result is music that seamlessly combines the live sound and communication of an improvised recording session with something electronic and entirely new.  "imagine miles davis as a drummer and you're getting close" - weekly planet (2000)

oRSo
long time by

the pit band of the circus circuit has emerged.  having mastered the underbelly of carny rock on their self-titled debut, oRSo advances through added layers of melody and harmony creating a record of unexpected depth and beauty.  phil spirito tells tales of horse racing, low level mobsters, lady pyromaniacs, bull riding truck drivers and tiny ghost horses. banjo, oil can, pianos and tenor guitars merge with electronic trickery to bring about this beautiful collection of vocal and instrumental yarns.  long time by takes a giant step forward in oRSo's evolution from worldly bum to tender-hearted hustler.
